How Much Money Do You Actually Need to Start Dropshipping in 2026?

28 June 2026 · 6 min read

Gurus love to say you need "$1,000 to start dropshipping." That's usually because they want to sell you a $500 course. Here's what it actually costs in 2026.

The bare-minimum lean start: almost nothing

You can genuinely start for close to €0 if you do it the smart way: validate a product with free organic TikTok content before spending anything. At this stage your only real "cost" is your time. You don't need a store, ads, or inventory to prove a product sells. Most beginners skip this and lose money, do not skip it.

The realistic "getting serious" budget: €50 to €150

Once a product shows organic traction and you want to sell properly, here's where money actually goes:

  • Domain: ~€10 to €15 a year. Makes you look legit.
  • Store platform: a basic Shopify-style plan runs roughly €1 to €30 a month depending on the deal (many have €1/month intro offers).
  • A few product samples: €20 to €50 to order the product yourself, check quality, and film your own content. This is worth it.
  • Optional small ad test: €30 to €50, but only after organic proves the product. Never before.

So realistically, €50 to €150 gets a beginner properly started, not the €1,000 the gurus claim.

Where you should NOT spend

  • A €500 course. The info is free on YouTube and Reddit.
  • Buying inventory up front. Dropshipping means you don't hold stock. If someone tells you to buy 100 units to start, that's not dropshipping.
  • Ads on an unvalidated product. The fastest way to burn your budget.

The golden rule

Spend as little as possible until a product proves it sells organically. Then reinvest the early sales into scaling. Money should follow validation, never lead it. Do that and it's nearly impossible to lose a meaningful amount.

Bottom line

You can start dropshipping in 2026 with almost nothing if you validate first, and €50 to €150 to do it properly once something works. Ignore anyone quoting four figures to begin.
